Defining your service areas

5 min read·Updated 2026-07-05

Service areas tell the AI where you actually work. With them set, the AI confirms whether a caller's address or ZIP is in your territory before it spends the call quoting a job you'd have to turn down. Leave them empty and the AI can't screen for location at all.

Good to know

Service areas control coverage, not price. There's no per-area surcharge field — if your price changes by location, that belongs in the service's pricing field (covered below).

The three ways to define an area

You can mix these freely — most businesses use a couple of them together.

TypeWhat you enterExampleBest when
ZIP CodeOne ZIP code per entry90210The most reliable — the AI matches the caller's ZIP exactly.
CityA city nameLos AngelesReliable — the AI matches the caller's city by name.
Mile RadiusA number of miles from your base25Informational only — see the warning below.
ZIP codes and cities are what the AI actually screens against — favor those.
Heads up

The AI can't measure distance. It screens coverage by matching a caller's ZIP or city to your list — a mile radius is something it can only mention, not enforce (it has no way to tell if an address is 20 miles away or 200). If coverage matters, list your ZIP codes or cities explicitly; use a radius only as a rough note on top of those.

  1. 1Open the AI Assistant page and go to your service areas.
  2. 2Add your ZIP codes and/or cities — the areas the AI can actually verify.
  3. 3Covering lots of ZIPs or cities? Use bulk add to paste a whole list at once.

Set them up so coverage is clear

Leaves gaps
  • No areas at all — the AI can't tell an in-territory caller from one three hours away.
  • One city name when you actually serve a dozen suburbs by ZIP.
  • Relying on a mile radius alone — the AI can't measure distance, so callers go unscreened.
Clean coverage
  • The specific ZIP codes or cities you serve, added explicitly — these are what the AI checks against.
  • A tight core list, plus a few outlying ZIPs you'll stretch for.
  • If you like thinking in radius, translate it into the actual ZIPs/cities it covers and add those.
Good to know

Coverage is about location only. If a caller is out of area, the AI can still take their details and flag it — you decide whether to make an exception.

Charging more for outlying areas

If you charge extra to travel to certain areas, put that in the service's pricing field, not here — and name the places so the AI can apply it. For example: "Add $25 per visit for Parker or Castle Rock (outside our Aurora area)." Service areas decide who's in range; your pricing decides what they pay.
